Hiring Process

Application Process

Step 1: NOEMS Application

Applicants are required to fill out and submit the NOEMS Application. All letters of recommendation must be emailed to emsemployment@nola.gov by the recommender with the subject line “recommendation for *full name of applicant*”. Example “recommendation for Jane Smith”.

Step 2: Civil Service Application

New Orleans EMS is a City of New Orleans agency. Please select the desired role and complete the civil service application.

Step 3: Interview

Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to two interviews and one pre-hire ride along.

All interviews will be virtual- one with the clinical team and one with the operational team.

The pre-hire ride will be an in-person, 12-hour shift. This is primarily an opportunity for the candidate to assess their compatibility and interest in NOEMS. During the ride along, the candidate will also be evaluated on interactions with the EMS crew, patients, and the public.

Candidates will also be evaluated on their fitness through a physical agility test. Please check the civil service application for specific physical requirements.

Step 4: Cleared for Hire

Applicant will be given a conditional offer of employment and scheduled for a background check that includes a medical physical and drug screening.

Candidates must have a current NREMT certification to apply and obtain licensure in the state of Louisiana prior to hire date.

Out of state candidates can complete medical physicals and drug screenings at any city approved Concentra site in the United States.

Step 5: Enter the Academy

Congratulations! Once you’ve completed the previous steps and the Academy is scheduled, you will attend and prepare to provide the highest quality pre-hospital emergency care throughout your career as a member of NOEMS.
